Healthcare Demands Knowledge And Education From Dedicated Career Professionals

Thursday, October 4, 2012

In keeping with the industry for which it trains students, an institution is considered among the leading - and fastest growing - education companies. Career Step, which provides healthcare education online, this year ranked within Inc. Magazine's top 50 education companies list, which is based on substantial growth. The company also was rated by MountainWest Capital Network as one of the 100 fastest growing companies in the state of Utah. It was the third consecutive year for the Inc. Magazine designation and the 10th year in a row for the Mountain West Capital Network ranking, according to announcements from Career Step.
One of the important components to an education in this program is medical terminology. Medical terminology includes the words used to describe illnesses, exams, body parts and more. Students might take terminology courses while working toward programs in medical coding and medical transcription.
Career Step's Learning and Mastering Medical Terminology courses, which are required with the medical coding program, are provided in what's known as "blocks." There are three blocks for this program in all at the institution. The first teaches students about prefixes, root words and suffixes used to form words and how to look these and other words up in medical reference guides and web sites.
Some of the words with prefixes, root words and suffixes in terminology include cardiogram, melanoma and arteriosclerosis. In addition to students in Block 1 of Career Step's Mastering Medical Terminology course, students in the medical transcription program might learn about words such as these in a medical word building course that they're required to take. Students might also refer to online guides such as the Merck Manual, which is an online medical library of afflictions.
There are sections in the Merck manual for geriatrics and cardiovascular disorders. These and other words in medical terminology might be better understood in instances where students have taken a med terminology course. The dermatologic disorders alone in the Merck Manual include words in the medical language such as panniculitis, folliculitis, albinism and more.
In Block 2 of this course students study root words specifically. They also review Block 1 of the course, the institution's website shows. By Block 3, they're learning everything from medical plurals and abbreviations to medical slang. Students in the Career Step medical transcription program, on the other hand, move on to a course known as Mastering Medical Language, where they're provided similar instruction.
Career Step offers students a choice of two medical coding and billing programs, as well as medical transcription programs including exam preparation programs for certified and registered medical transcriptionists. With the latter two courses, students take medical terminology building blocks courses. They also offer a program designed to train students to become pharmacy technicians.
